I love this N64… I will NEVER sell it. First, it’s in the color I prefer… and it’s a Japanese model… and it plays games from anywhere thanks to their mod.
We are going to take a good look at this modded N64 from Hand Held Legend. Let’s cover what they did:
1. Swapped the cartridge bracket so we can be region-free
2. Added the RetroGem Shiny Edition – Now we have HDMI, WiFi, CRT filters, etc.
3. Upgraded the analog stick on the N64 controller (swapped it with a hall effect analog stick)
So, this will work on your old CRT AND on your new HDTV through HDMI. I’ll be using the analog (s-video) adapter for mine since I have a CRT, but the HDMI is really nice to have; it’ll be especially nice on an OLED TV.
In this video, I’ll give you a full overview of the PixelFX RetroGem mod. Well look at some of the CRT/scanline filters, I’ll show you how the WiFi works, and then we’ll play some games… Goldeneye, Rayman 2, Mario Kart, Zelda, whatever! Nobody reads this, so I can get away with saying things like this: Rayman 2 is better than Mario 64.
