I wanted a little more speed and an Nvidia GPU for my capture rig… And this was faster than expected.
The MINISFORUM BD790i is an absolute beast. It is substantially faster than my massive rig with a 5950X. If I upgraded the GPU (I have a 3080 Ti in my main rig), this would be a lot faster. I love that this tiny CPU has 16 cores and 32 threads. It is also only about 55 W. So, I’m going to start using this PC to render AV1 files. So, it’ll be getting plenty of use outside of when I’m just doing videos.
The case was also overkill… I mean, the Thermaltake Tower 100 larger than I wanted, but it was so easy to work with and I’ve already had someone come over, see it, and say, “that is beautiful, what is it?” So, it’s a conversation starter.
The Thermaltake SWAFAN GT12 is also overkill (sensing a theme?). It’s nice and quiet and the extra swappable fan blades will make this useful in the future as well.
The 4060 ti is probably the weakest element because it’s only the 8GB model… but then again, I won’t be gaming much on this and I’ll only be at 1440p. So, it’s just fine. I grabbed it for dirt cheap on one of those Temu fire sales… so good luck with that.
Then I have a few things from Teamgroup. I have some of their memory in an AM4 rig and it has been rock solid, so I decided to go for them here as well. The PCIe 5×4 M.2 is so fast that it should probably be illegal. Seriously, this is ridiculous. I’ll probably make a separate video on it because it’s just too crazy.
The RAM was also a very good deal for the money… at 5200, it’s beyond the spec of the motherboard, but it’s working fine… at
