The Tek 0027: Quantum Computers, 7990, TWC and AT&T Being Insane

Time Warner and At&t are jealous of Google. They want equal treatment. I guess they totally forgot about the Telecommunications Act.

Here are the raw notes:

Run x86 programs on ARM-based Servers?

Apple to ditch Intel?
  • Speculation only... looking for their own SoC head architect... did not specify that it was for mobile

Ad industry hates IE10's "do not track" setting:

Galaxy S III sales have gone up due to lawsuit:
Samsung needs to use that to their advantage... Instead of the whole "The next thing is already here..." how about, "This is what they were so afraid of."

iPhone 5 has more toxic stuff than the SIII

MakerBot, no longer open hardware!

Quadrocopters play catch

Culture/ Internet

Samuel L. Ipsum
"Now that we know who you are, I know who I am. I'm not a mistake! It all makes sense! In a comic, you know how you can tell who the arch-villain's going to be? He's the exact opposite of the hero. And most times they're friends, like you and me! I should've known way back when... You know why, David? Because of the kids. They called me Mr Glass."

Germany trying to start a world war:

Legal/ Hacktivism

Scam: reputation company abusing the system:

Hardware
Going for the AMD A10-5800k? Get fast RAM:

Quantum computers in Canada?
  • D-Wave is in Vancouver
  • Bezos and In-Q-Tel are in a group of investors who are betting $30 million on this prospect
  • show insane cooling unit -259 °F (4 °Kelvin)
AMD cutting prices on 7700 and 7800 cards... again!

Powercolor's 7990:

1000MPH Car:

IBM microscope... resolution 100 times smaller than an atom!
  • With their technique, they managed to measure very subtle differences in the distribution of electrons within the molecule’s bonds. How subtle? We’re talking 3 picometers or 0.000000000003 meters (one-hundredth the diameter of an atom)

See through car?

Don't get wet in the rain:

Bethesda created Battlecry Studios in Austin... working on a new free-to-play game:

Question, I know yall use the 5D mark ii to record your videos, however I thought they had a maximum recording limit of 12min(4GB)?  How do you record continuous video for that long if there is that limit on the camera?

We don't...   though.. the last TEK, when we were in NYC, we filmed with a 5D mk III, and found the 30 minute limit quite entertaining.

x86 is a dinorsaur of an instruction set. PLEASE let us move on! (I blame AMD for their 64bit piece of poo of an instruction set tag on) Also if you are scared about advertising tracking you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_f5wNw-2c0Talks about a firefox/chrome addon called collusion that visually shows those guys tracking you.

Fuck the "post PC era" bullshit.

I ranted on this the other day, so i'll summerize.

PC is personal computer, meaning, you own it, you can modify it, you can rebuild it. It is your personal property. Most of these new devices are gated communities, you can hack them, but the hacks are kludges, they are not intended and frequently the company that "owns" the device does NOT like it and actively tries to suppress it.

Post PC means we don't own our devices. Post PC means privacy is dead.

Now we might replace the Desktop with a smaller form factor, then dock it to nice big monitors and useful interface devices (whether its keyboard + mouse, or something not yet invented.. but I suspect keyboard will be around for a long LONG time... it is already ancient, going back to the 1800s in the form of typewriters.

And if anyone wants to read my rant: https://plus.google.com/u/0/104441386868315873040/posts/bwQDtvQ8K3t

Piiiiistol! I like the background stream gameplay, though. You should do random gameplay back there if there aren't streams available, too. Makes it cooler.

who's gameplay footage was that in the backround? I found myself watching it and not paying attention to Logan

When did you annonce the winner of the Guild Wars pc or was that just only on your FB page?

Also wasn't there a Tek pc (nzxt) being given away? I remember a case with the logo.

edit: wow  just on FB. Jordan Hall.

First off, thanks for the videos, love them. I liked the videos you put out over at Newegg, good stuff. The 'Fair(y) Use' video was great, thanks, it made my day. It is good to see someone just ranting and giving useful info at the same time, much different than the ridged, overly scripted stuff that you find all over the place these days.

My rant 30 is the login, it is done and over with, and I can obviously comment now - but why do I have to login  my login? When I chose to use Facebook as my method of accessing the comment section of the site, I still had to go to my Email to verify my account. Isn't that what the Facebook login is for? I mean what is the point of using an outside service if I still have to go through those steps. It is basically the same thing as just making a unique account on your site in the first place; anyway, just asking. Take care and I look forward to future videos.

Oh, and one more thing - apparently it reloads the video when you submit a comment. Not that big of a deal except that I paused it to comment and wasn't entirely sure of the exact point I was at, forcing me to have to jump around until I found where I left off. Not trollin here, just giving some feed back.

The lame ass comment above was me testing the situation before submiting a comment about it, sorry about that.
