Well Defraggler is an eye opener, mentioned that my regularly defragged C drive was fragmented by 20%...

I have always wanted to see more Maks Hacks since the 1st one that aired months ago. Thanks for reviving this and giving us even more content.

This series is so informative; I swear I am learning many new things from these videos. Thanks Maks!

This was a lot better than most of the generic "Speed up * OS" videos you find on the Internet. But Maks, (or Logan) can you guys also provide detailed transcripts/text tutorials of these videos as well? Sometimes it's just easier to re-read a sentence or paragraph a few times than it is to seek back and forth on a YouTube video trying to listen or watch something a bunch of times while fiddling with it because you accidentally didn't seek back far enough or forget at what point he said a certain instruction, etc.

It would also help out people who have to watch their bandwidth, luckily I'm not one of those people, but I'm sure the ones who are would appreciate it.

Pretty awesome video bro. Kinda surprised you didn't mention the FX chip hotfixes for Windows 7, though I suppose thats a bit of a isolated concern.

Couple of things...

-Last Access was disabled on Windows 8 by default just FYI

-Advanced boot options... turn on more cores thingy (technical I know) I used this way back and just learnt to stop using it. Never noticed an increase if at all even with a i7 and every once in a while I would have some problem with some X application when I boot and I end up disabling this to fix it. Just something to keep in mind. If you try enabling all your memory right next to this setting the above is even more true.

-No GUI boot. Remember when you use this if you have any programs that run during windows boot like check disk or perfectdisks boot defrag... you will never see them.

-Indexing service... you search your files often keep it on... you don't search for your files through explorer turn it off no matter what. It is a complete waste of resources if you don't constantly search files via explorer. When you disable the only side effect is much slower searching in explorer

-Holly crap Win Defragger is crap, no idea, you have. If you want a paid for Defrager try PerfectDisk. It is the best (paid)... don't argue with me... don't do it!

-Temp file cleaner... CCleaner... done. Premiere Pro/After Effects temp files my god... also BSOD dumps

-Everything he mentioned about turn this off for SSDs bla bla. Here is a comprehensive guide on everything about... that.

As I understand it, the "Number of processors" boot option sets the maximum number of cores to be used during boot. It's a debug option that helps to diagnose problems with multicore CPUs by limiting the Windows boot process to a specified number of cores. So setting it to the actual number of physical cores shouldn't have any effect on boot times. It might also be useful for installing Windows and transplanting the system hard drive to another computer with different CPU and RAM. Never done it, so that's just speculation.

I keep getting a boot error when switching over to using multiple cores to boot. It keeps deleting my boot\bcd files. Is there a why to avoid this and still boot with multiple cores?

Great video. I've implemented some of these changes now, and defraggler is definitely awesome. Turns out my RAID 0 array that I used for games and data storage was 35% fragmented.

posted 2 years 5 months ago

Wow... defraggler showed a 20% frag on my drive as opposed to windows defrag of 1% o_O

posted 2 years 5 months ago

Incredibly helpful. I also tried to use a custom theme to a limited success. I was wondering how you change icons for your applications and start button, I have no idea what to do.

My computer is also named Frankenstien.

Question how does defragler compare to Diskeeper 2011 i have the Pro Premier with hyperfast.

which brings me to my second question, hyperfast is meant to defrag SSD's which you said should never be done, soooo.... the thing is im looking to get an SSD and id like to know if its ok or not.

oh, and good video thanks!

I was waiting for this vid after you mentioned in the last Tek that you'd rather mod Windows 7 than use Windows Ta8letLand.

Hadn't seen the start menu delay adjust or startup processor# before. Much thanks!

I just purchased another 8gigs of ram.. damn ECC Unbuffered is expensive though :\ 60$

posted 2 years 5 months ago

Wait, are you implying $60 for 8 GB is expensive? O.o I paid $100 for 4 GB in 2010 and that was a pretty good deal at the time.

this vid is super helpful and uber awsome :) i really love all the awsome ass vid's the tek, inbox and maks haks :) no "transcripts" needed <3

Disabling USB Selective Suspend should help with shutdown times.

There is a slight delay while windows waits for all of the USB devices to be disconnected... just make sure you are done using any USB thumb drives or external HDDs before you shutdown to prevent possible data loss.

We need a new one for Windows 8.  Or at least useful tools built into windows 8 that are disabled by default or something.

posted 1 year 8 months ago

most of the tweaks that are shown happen to work in windows 8 just fine, try it out ;)

Who made this video?

posted 1 year 1 day ago

You must be new here... Anyways, the person who made this video as you can see if you look is Maks, thing is he is not really associated with Tek syndicate anymore so that is why you don't see him in new videos anymore.
