Path Of Exile Is Now In Open Beta

Give this game a try, it can't hurt.

Today the action rpg Path of Exile from developers Grinding Gear Games in New Zealand has officially gone into open beta. The game is completely free to play with a store where your real money can buy you only cosmetic items and more room for your personal stash (though you start with plenty of space). Path of Exile sports a skill system where skill gems are slotted into your gear giving you active skills and every level earns you a point to spend in a massive skill tree full of various passive skills that can completely change how your character works. Plus a level cap that the developers claim no one will ever reach and a strong end game.

For anyone that was disappointed with Diablo 3, or anyone who enjoyed Diablo 2, give this game a try. I've been playing it for a little over a year now and I find the game to be fantastic. So check out the video above for a quick look at the game and head over to the Path of Exile page here for more information.

i have played this game when it was in closed beta, all that i can say is that its excellent, much better than diablo 3

would you please give some examples why it is better? I was kinda dissapointed by D3 - mostly by how short it was.

well right now its short because of the reason there is only 3 acts (you can also say diablo 3 had only 3 acts due to the fact the ''fourth act'' was a run and gun corridor level) however unlike diablo 3 you can create all sorts of builds on its ''skill forest'' for example a warrior focused on unarmed combat, and here is an interesting thing, all of the magic spells and skills are obtained via gems that you insert on your weapon so there is no class locked spell and they can add new types of spells in new gems,it maintains that gritty atmosphere and 8 player coop from diablo 2 also it has an interesting end game that is being expanded you can get certain types of ''maps'' that you can take them to a certain area to open portals to a different dungeon on the game that you cant reach by foot, also you can combine the maps to create new challenges and dungeons for example a dungeon that has lots of high level monsters. and if this doesnt clarify why its better than diablo 3 than let me insert the last nail in the coffin, the loot system is not influenced by the auction house and this game is not pay 2 win,the only things you can pay for are cosmetic items and other graphical changes such as ''extreme gore''. these for me were the reasons why this game is better than diablo 3 i highly suggest you try it and since its free 2 play you can download it anytime :)

If it has skill points and more of a skill tree than D3 then I'm sold.

I've played this for a good hour today and off the bat it is very nice gameplay, I've been using duelest to swiftly cut through the first quests. The skill tree is bloody massive, leaving you able to define your class very well.

Just played for about an hour.It is so amazing. Its better than Diablo III and allows massive amounts of skill combinations :)

This is what Diablo 3 should of been, It's obvious that the game is extremely inspired by diablo 2, I caught onto the controls instantly with the onscreen map and inventory etc, but that is in no way a bad thing (the similarity), I am a level 4 templar as of writing this and I'm having alot of fun, plus I got a crystal that lets me raise 3 zombies so I feel even more like my original Diablo 2 necromancer.

I just started playing the first few levels, and gotta say, I'm really enjoying this game. I never played D3, so I don't have anything to say about comparisons in that regard. Plainly spoken, It's just a good game so far. The gameplay is nice, and it's refreshing to see that there's a focus on skill/equipment customization rather than character customization. But what I really love is the rich storyline and the voiceovers. Can't wait to play it in its full glory.

Playing it as of recent, and I have to say in comparison to D3, it is much more immersive than you'd expect. I mean, the principle is the same, hack and slash dungeon slayer with RP...but it just feels different. Definitely more D2-esque. Also, this came as a surprise to me, that a new zealand game that came out of no where, has infinitely better particle effects and ground clutter detail than a game that was supported by LOL-ovision.
