Nvidia Says $199 Quad-Core Tegra 3 Tablets Soon (Kai Platform)

Thanks to lower cost components, Jen-Hsun Huang says we will see tablets at the magic $200 mark soon.

Tegra 3 based tablets are fast but pricey. How about one for $200? The Kai platform that Nvidia is working on will use less expensive components but still feature the quad-core Tegra 3 (ARM-based processor).

Here is what Ndidia had to say:

"Our strategy on Android is simply to enable quad-core tablets running Android Ice Cream Sandwich to be developed and brought out to market at the $199 price point, and the way we do that is a platform we've developed called Kai," he's quoted as saying. "So this uses a lot of the secret sauce that's inside Tegra 3 to allow you to develop a tablet at a much lower cost, by using a lot of innovation that we've developed to reduce the power that's used by the display and use lower cost components within the tablet."

I'll bother Nvidia for a sample to review. Will you be in line for one?

I will look forward to it, this is just in time for me.

I used to scoff at these pads until I used one. Now I REALLY want one.

The Tablet gods have heard my prayers.

I've been looking for a sub $300 tablet just for forum crawling, movie watching, and calendar keeping. There are plenty of cheap $200 no-name tablets that will do the job but I feel that if I don't get Tegra 3 I'll be missing out. I still want that extreme responsiveness and multi-tasking power.

For my intended use the 7" Samsung Galaxy II priced at $249 is the closest thing right now but it's only dual core. But at $449+ I would rather get a laptop. $199 is the perfect price point to get me interested in a tablet.

The bigger question is, which manufacturers will actually um... manufacture them?

200 US Dollars? We will probably pay at least 250€ -_-. Yes I could really use a small tablet just to surf the web, read in this great forum, watch youtube videos.

I mean, why use my gaming rig for that, right?

Hmm, did you read the date this was posted? I'm pretty sure this is the Nexus 7. Logan posted a review you can look at.
