Nvidia GeForece GTX 690 Benchmarks and Previews

Nvidia is set to release one of the most expensive graphics cards in history ($999). There are no real world benchmarks floating around at this point, but at that price I would imagine this thing performs.

Hardware Canucks uploaded a snazzy preview of the card. Check it out here: Hardware Canucks Nvidia GTX 690 Preview or Toms Hardware

UPDATE: Nvidia has published some in-house benchmarks. Have a gander:

I wonder how long it will be before we see AMD's counterpart.

Man i'd love to have this card! unfortunatley it probably cost more than my whole PC combined. ;p

They also sent out crowbars with some cards, seemingly teasing Episode 3. Or at least, that's what speculative fans like myself hope.

I believe that this generation of cards are really the first generation to be able to game well at 2560x1600 resolutions. im glad that it's the gaming industry that's at the forefront of higher resolution rather than LG or Apple. even though, they have the technology it's us that are actually using it.

After this gets released, I never want to hear from console gamers ever again

Next generation of consoles is coming on 2013 I think, looks like you'll still hear from them...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a PC gamer!

from what I've heard the xbox will have a 6770 and playstation will have an apu

This thing is a monster. I wish I had the cash to blow to get my hands on one.

At the price point of $999 would it possibly be better to get two 680's and run them in sli?

posted 1 year 11 months ago

i would get 2 680's imho. they'll overclock better. but honestly, this card looks beast sexy. but not $999 sexy

I was doing some reading and found that in the 690, both gpu chips have been underclocked from what 680's are set at.

But a gtx 690 is supposed to use less power and produce less heat then two gtx 680's.

the boost clock on the 690 is almost the same as the core clock on the 680's. apparently the 690 runs pretty cool, so there is room for overclocking.

only thing i can mention being a console gamer getting back in to pc gaming. At this current point with ivy bridge, there only a handful of z77 boards support dual 16x at 3.0. Personally, i don't own a intel cpu, but planning to do an upgrade from amd. I do enjoy the idea of virtual vsync from ivy bridge and not the hyperperformance if provides. Also, i like high end cards for my rig. Currently, I do not see any boards on the market with ivy bridege supporting 16x over 4 pci lanes. So far asrock x79 extreme11 is the only board that supports 16x in quad lanes, but not supporting lucide virtu tech and virtual vsync. So finding a board with dual 16x 3.0 and lucid virtu mvp satisfies my purchase on a dual gpu card.

I would love to have that card!

friend has one of these. Runs really cool and quiet, very nice overclock headroom too. Slaughters games. It's actually a pretty good dual gpu single card.
