Anders Breivik Used Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to Train for Norwegian Massacre

Anders Breivik showing his "far right-wing salute". He used the holographic sight in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to hone his skills before killing 77 people in Norway last July.

This is going to cause all sorts of trouble. The media (especially the old conservative outlets) have been dying for something like this. This is their chance to vilify gaming and prove that it leads to violence.

We need to clairify what is going on here before it gets out of hand. Anders Breivik commited an atrocity. His motivation was based on his political views and had nothing to do with Call of Duty. I see no plausible way that CoD can be at fault.

"If you are familiar with a holographic sight, it's built up in such a way that you could have given it to your grandmother and she would have been a super marksman. It's designed to be used by anyone. In reality it requires very little training to use it in an optimal way. But of course it does help if you've practised using a simulator."

He does not say that CoD gave him the idea to kill 77 people. I'll be interested to see how big media spins this. Feel free to post articles and videos in the comments. Oh god... what Fox News is going to do with this.

Well, I expect fox to start up another anti-gaming program calling all of us gamers psychotic timebombs.  Won't be the first time they've essenatly done this.

This will never end. We might as well just accept it.

It's ridiculous to think anyone could consider CoD or any fps game a simulator in any conceivable way, using a game pad or mouse to control a virtual gun is nothing like wielding an actual weapon. Anyone who blames games for violence is an idiot, at the end of the day you've got to be pretty darn stupid to try something you see in a game. Good article though.
