I'm not sure if anyone here follows specific journalists. For the most part, I don't make a point to, but I do tend to read a decent number of Nicholas Kristof's pieces. Perhaps I'm inherently biased, since I was lucky enough to have seen him speak at my school a while back, and it was really apparent that he cares about what he's doing.
Anyways, yesterday he released an op-ed in the New York Times about the prevalence and effects of hormone-mimicking chemicals. I would encourage you all to take a few minutes to read it, since he is a far better writer and journalist than I. Click here to do so.
I tend to eat and shop like a crazy, paranoid hippy (perhaps because some part of me is one). But there are some things I had no idea that contain endocrine disruptors. Thermal receipts? Seriously? And canned food? I mean I know that once upon a time they used to be lead-sealed...but I didn't realize they had swapped out one toxic material for another.
For those of you interested, here's a link of some surprising sources of BPA. Granted, not all of them will expose you to an insane amount of the chemicals, but it's good to be conscious of what you're interacting with on a daily basis. And I'd be wary of te "well, it's a negligible amount" mentality, considering the FDA and EPA don't seem to have a firm grasp on what actually should be considered a negligible amount of contact.
