posted 9 months 4 weeks agoGoogle Fiber sounds great. Not sure it's the same as copying to a NAS drive. I mean, isn't gigabit = gigabyte / 8?

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoI just looked this up and found that contrary to what I thought current ethernet speeds are rated as gigabit. So you're right, I'm wrong and most likely served :P.
I'll sit down and shut up now :).

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoIt's the other way around, there are 8 bits in a byte. So it'd be 8 x gigabits = gigabyte, or gigabit = gigabyte/8.

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoAnything that says bit you have to divide by 8. 8 bits = 1 byte. for 1000Mbps would turn out to be 125Mega Bytes per second.

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoThat's what I thought. But I also thought that ethernet was rated as bite, not bit too. I think that's where I went wrong. Thanks for the heads up though, guys :).

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoWonder whats going to happen to all the other Telecom companies once Google Fiber spreads. They would have to upgrade or they would go under.

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoWell, even if they do upgrade they will still suck compared to Google. They will try to censor the internet. I really do not trust any of them.

posted 9 months 4 weeks agoThe speed isn't what's amusing me most, it's their will to let customers have their freedom. There Google will win.
Not that I am affected in that sort of way over here.

posted 9 months 3 weeks agoThe fastest throughput speed I've ever seen with my ISP (SkyBeam) was 120kbps short of 1Mbps. I sure hope Google gains momentum with expanding it's Fiber service soon.

posted 9 months 3 weeks agoAustralia's rolling out a national fiber-optic broadband service. It's going to take a few years and cost $55billion but I think it's worth it. About the only good thing our government has done.
